Albertina Soliani to the Burmese Ambassador in Italy: «I request to meet Aung San Suu Kyi”

Your Excellency, Dear Madam Ambassador,

I would like to express to you – and to the whole Myanmar through you – my great sorrow and deep concern about the current situation in the Country, the shocking violence of the military, the civilian victims of repression, the arbitrary arrests of President U Win Myint, of State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi, of many NLD leaders and activists, of representatives of civil society and ethnic groups. You know my long-lasting familial, profound friendship with Aung San Suu Kyi. I am sending my formal request to be allowed to enter Myanmar to meet Aung San Suu Kyi in the next period. I am also asking you to give me direct information on the health conditions of the State Counselor, even talking to you over the phone. The Italian Government, to which I am going to send a copy of this request, is constantly informed of my intentions. I look forward to hearing from you.
